How are you perceived online?
What do people who’ve never heard of you think when they find your website?
Do you know?
Do your customers say how much they love your logo? Are you proud when you give your online details out? Or do you think you need to shake things up a bit?
How you present yourself online matters just as much, if not more, as how you present yourself offline.
In this chaotic world where the noise on the internet is so loud you’ve no idea how to switch it off, or where to go for one thing or another, what makes you stop and listen? When scrolling through your newsfeed, what makes you pause? What makes you read the whole of a newsletter rather than skimming through?
How many of your past customers come back for more, and more, and more?
When The Creative Business Network first began, the vision was to create a resource for creative businesses throughout the South West to include networking, mentoring, workshops and advice. We thought that building up a network of creative businesses to support each other and work together would be beneficial to all.
How things develop with a new business is exciting, and what we have found is that The CBN is starting to become even more than that, and a network even larger than the one we wanted is forming.
Part of this is all down to a new partnership with Exeter Phoenix. After an initial meeting with like-minded souls late last year, more opportunities are being created for Devon based creative businesses like yours.
Together, we are absolutely delighted to announce that from 7th February, The CBN are holding Creative Surgery Drop in sessions at Exeter Phoenix. We will be there from 10-3 on the first Tuesday of every month to offer business support & advice to artists, makers, musicians and filmmakers.
This evening we will be launching the service at the Creative Hub Social at The Phoenix from 6pm, so if you are local please do come along. This is your network and is going from strength to strength, to hopefully give you the support you need to build your business. We would love to hear from you with your ideas as to how this could develop.

'We tend to procrastinate don’t we? When all those other jobs need doing (yes, tax return, I’m looking at you), at times we do anything we possibly can to avoid them and look in other directions.
However, I’m going to stop calling it procrastination, and start calling it 'working in a different capacity'. When I have a well-needed coffee with a friend so I feel so much more revitalised at my desk. When I take a walk to get away from the huge list of things weighing me down. And more importantly, when I find myself exploring hundreds of other sites to find out how to use my time better.
There has been a huge shift over the last six months in how much small businesses are getting seen on social media. Whether you have a business page, or just love to follow pages, you will have noticed a seismic change in what you are seeing now.
We have to face the fact that social media isn’t the same place as it used to be a few years ago. Unfortunately, the days of reaching the same vast audience with your posts seem to be over. Organic reach was down 52% for business pages during 2016.
Scrolling through my own Facebook feed now all I see are Buzzfeed articles, Tasty videos and shared news reports from friends. No longer is it a visual inspirational feast for my eyes. Those creative pages that I used to spend hours drooling over no longer appear. My online shopping is no longer prompted on a daily basis. I am stumped when it comes to gift lists – Facebook used to be my go-to when it was a friend's birthday.
Happy New Year creatives - well this is it, a new year is upon us and we are looking forward to the next 12 months. Everywhere you look there are resolutions being made, gym memberships being renewed and healthy eating being embraced. We enter this new year with change and rebirth on our mind.
From a personal perspective, we look at how we can improve our selves this year, what changes we want to make to our lifestyles, our relationships, our careers. What new hobbies do we want to start? What dreams do we have, that we’ve been putting off for too long? How can we achieve them? We are looking to nurture and grow, and it can be an exciting time.
