Have you ever read a blog post that you wish you’d written? Not in a ‘I’m gutted they got there before me’ kind of way, but in a way that you read it and it’s almost like it could have come out of your head because you empathise with everything it says?
Well, that’s how I feel about this one.
I love it. I really, really love it. It says everything I wish I could say to you all right now because it’s so completely true.
A couple of weeks ago I had a wobble. It’s completely normal, I knew it would pass but it was still hard to get through. Running a business on your own is tricky, and there are so many times I wish I had a business partner I could discuss ideas with. It’s hard when you can’t see the wood for the trees and I felt myself being pulled down.
After I confessed to my wobble I became awash with support and virtual hugs from lots and lots of you, all understanding and knowing what it’s like. Thank you for that, it really meant a lot. I know there are many of you who go through the same thing, some more regularly than others.
The days are getting longer, the air is feeling warmer and colours are blooming in our gardens – yep, it finally feels as though Spring is here! Okay, maybe not with a vengeance, but the signs are starting to appear.
I mostly know it’s that time of year however, because I am getting an overwhelming urge to purge my house. The clutter, the dust, the piles of paper littering every surface. Clothes I’ve not worn for years, boots lying redundant. What I need is a right proper good old sort out. Yep – you guessed it, a Spring Clean is due.
Around this time of year, some of us feel the same about our businesses. My last blog post was about feeling overwhelmed, and sometimes the cure to overcoming your overwhelm is to organise and sort out. Now is a really good time to look objectively at your business as a whole, and try to figure out what needs to stay and what needs to go. Even if you don’t have much time, you can achieve a positive change. So, these are a few quick ideas to put in place that may help with that spring cleaning….
With today being International Women’s Day, I couldn’t very well let it pass without writing a short blog post about it.
For those of you who aren’t already aware, International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
My life is full of incredible, successful, women. Everywhere I look they are around me. Inspiring me, motivating me, holding me up and pushing me on. I would like to take a moment to recognise them and all that they do for me. I cannot even express how phenomenal the women in both my personal and my professional life are, and their achievements are outstanding.
I can’t quite believe we are in March already! Although things have been so busy over the last few weeks, the time has flown by more than I thought possible. As always, the end of a month brings reflection and I think more than anything February is a tricky one to manage.
The start of a year is always so full of promise, of plans and goals and aims and targets. This year especially seems to have been the year to sort out our businesses once and for all – there have been some amazing planners available to creatives, and focusing our attention on the inner workings of our businesses has been prevalent for so many of us.
I’m not sure why 2017 has started this way more than other years, maybe because there are so many of you at that stage where you need more support, maybe you want to push your businesses to the next level, or perhaps you just need more focus. Either way, there has been masses of planning, aims, targets and goals going on, more than ever before, it seems.
