Can you believe we are at the end of May already?! I don’t know about you, but for me, this year seems to be racing ahead quicker than ever before…
This blog post is a little different to normal – I need your help and input.
At the beginning of each month I like to give myself certain goals to achieve before the end of that month. I encourage my members to do the same, and offer support where I can to help them achieve those goals. Whoever you have got by your side will be encouraging you to do the same.
We’re now at the end of this month, which means the start of a new one. Are you thinking about what June is going to bring for you? Do you know what you want to achieve? Write it down – make sure the targets you give yourself are manageable and realistic and figure out how you are going to make them happen. I have my goals but need support to make them happen.
One of the most frustrating things for Facebook Group users in years gone by is the fact that they have had to be used as a personal account rather than a business account.
Well, yes, you’ve guessed it from the title of this blog post but they’ve only gone and let you use a Facebook Group as your page!*
*disclaimer – you need to be an admin of the group to use it as your page, but it’s a start…
Whilst out and about running workshops and creative surgeries, I keep being asked the same kind of questions. This is great because it is market research while I’m working! It is always good to know what people want to learn about, this helps me tailor the content that I am writing or delivering.
The majority of the people I meet have either just started up their business, they are in the first year or they are thinking about starting. Maybe they have taken a career break, maybe the kids are old enough now, maybe it’s just the right time. Either way, most discussion topics from these pre-start-ups are ‘what do I do first?’
When we were just starting out as The Creative Business Network, I wrote a blog post about how to start, and I thought it was about time I built on that.
You may have been told that e-marketing is an effective way of engaging your audience? You may have been told that it results in more click throughs’ than using social media? You may have been told that adding email newsletters to your marketing strategy is the way forward?
Well, what you’ve been told is right. If you’re in doubt about the effectiveness in e-marketing then have a read through of this article in which there are a number of examples, including the following:
"…if you have 2,000 email subscribers, 2,000 Facebook fans and 2,000 followers on Twitter – this is what you will get:
And this article, and others, list many more stats besides this one. So that’s great! Let’s get going with our e-marketing. But if you’ve got no names on your list, you’ve not captured the email addresses of your previous customers, what do you do?

One of the hardest things about running your own business is that you are doing it on your own. No business partner to share ideas, no team to turn to when things don’t go according to plan. There are many benefits to this of course – you get to make all the decisions, don’t have to answer to anyone and have the option to work in your pyjamas all day long – as well as not having to share the cake!
But what happens when you’re stuck? When you feel low, unmotivated and without direction? What do you do when you have no idea about Twitter? When you know you need to be sending newsletters but don’t know where to start? When your bookkeeping folder is in fact, a box of random receipts and you have no idea what to do with them?
I suspect this sounds familiar to some of you? A lack of knowledge or understanding about certain elements of your business will then in turn lead to lack of confidence, and it may be harder to then look for the support you need to build your business knowledge.
