One of the most frustrating things for Facebook Group users in years gone by is the fact that they have had to be used as a personal account rather than a business account. Well, yes, you’ve guessed it from the title of this blog post but they’ve only gone and let you use a Facebook Group as your page!* *disclaimer – you need to be an admin of the group to use it as your page, but it’s a start… If you want to know how to link your group and page together, go into your page settings and click ‘edit page’. If you turn off ‘default tabs’ you can add other tabs to the left hand side of the page – in this case we are adding the tab ‘Groups’. Once you have added the groups tab, you can click through and click ‘link Groups’. This will take you to the list of groups that you are admin to, and you can choose which one/s you want to link to your page. When you are in the group, you can choose to use it as your business page or your personal profile. It will be interesting to see if, in the future, you will be able to access groups in general as your business page, but for now this is great news for businesses who use their groups for further promotion of their business. So how can you benefit from this new update? Running a Facebook Group alongside your Facebook Page is a great addition to your digital marketing. Groups are fantastic to help build your network and your advocates. By offering support through an equal forum such as a Facebook Group is a bonus to you and your audience. You can create groups to serve a number of purposes;
Groups are equal forums, as opposed to a Facebook page which is ultimately your voice with others listening. By offering the opportunity for your group members to ask questions and build friendships within the group, you are creating advocates for your business which will be invaluable as you grow. Everyone has an equal voice (although admin does need to keep an eye on comments) and you will find that as the group grows and develops, you (as admin) won’t need to be as active in answering queries or offering advice, as the other group members will do this work for you. We have our own group which has been evolving over the last couple of years and was originally an add-on to our local networking events, but has grown to become wider than that. Blogs are shared, opportunities are presented, questions are asked, recommendations are suggested. It is a valuable community for those that are a part of it. So much so that we’ve just renamed it as The Creative Business Network Community! If you’d like to join, then please request so here. We’d love to hear your experiences of Facebook groups, please do let us know. The CBN Team x
